Der Mond tauchte das Gebäude in seichtes Licht und verlieh ihm einen Hauch von Melancholie. Die kleinen Fenster wirkten wie traurige Augen, die schon viel zu lange immer nur dasselbe gesehen hatten, und die große Tür wie das Maul eines riesigen Untiers, das alle zu verschlingen drohte.
Das Dach hatte unter den Lasten der Vergangenheit nachgegeben und gewährte dem Mond einige bescheidene Einblicke ins Innere des alten Kasernengebäudes, das schon seit Jahrzehnten leer stand.
