GEDENKORT SA-GEFÄNGNIS PAPESTRASSE
Der Gedenkort SA-Gefängnis Papestraße ist der einzige historische Ort des frühen NS-Terrors in Berlin, in welchem sich noch Spuren aus dem Jahr 1933 finden lassen.
In dem ursprünglich für die Preußischen Eisenbahnregimenter erbauten Kasernengebäude befand sich von März bis Dezember 1933 ein frühes Konzentrationslager unter Führung der SA. Die verantwortlichen SA-Männer inhaftierten, verhörten und folterten an diesem Ort vor allem politisch Andersdenkende, Juden und andere vom NS-Regime verfolgte Gruppen. Bislang sind knapp 500 Personen, die 1933 in der Papestraße in Haft waren, namentlich bekannt. Die Gesamtzahl der Häftlinge war mit Sicherheit deutlich größer. Eine lückenlose historische Aufarbeitung ist heute kaum mehr möglich.
Die als Haftzellen genutzten Kellerräume sind weitgehend in ihrem damaligen Zustand erhalten. Seit März 2013 dokumentiert eine Ausstellung vor Ort die Geschichte des SA-Gefängnisses Papestraße. Damit endete ein langjähriges Ringen um die dauerhafte Sicherung des Kellers und die Etablierung als Gedenk- und Lernort.
