Die 25-jährige Studentin Julia muss sich nach einer wilden Nacht der Realität stellen. Ihr Freund Ramiro liegt schwer verletzt in seinem Blut, sein Geliebter - der Vater auch von Julias werdendem Kind - ist erstochen. Ramiros Aussage führt dazu, dass Julia wegen Mordes zu einer langjährigen Haftstrafe verurteilt wird. In einem Teil des Gefängnis, der Müttern mit ihren Kindern vorbehalten ist, bringt sie Sohn Tomas zur Welt. Langsam erst lernt sie ihn lieben, doch dann ist Julia endlich bereit, für ihren Jungen zu kämpfen.

Mit seinem fünften Film schlug der Argentinier Juan Pablo Taprero im Wettbewerb des Festival de Cannes 2008 hohe Wellen, nicht zuletzt wegen der sensationellen Performance seiner Frau Martina Gusman in der Hauptrolle: Nicht nur äußerlich ähnelt sie Angelina Jolie, sie bringt auch den selben Einsatz und die selbe Leidenschaft mit.
