Was bleibt vom Menschenrecht auf informationelle Selbstbestimmung, wenn eine Horde von Big Brothers uns auf allen Wegen durch Netz und Nachbarschaft über die Schulter sieht? Während gleichzeitig die Möglichkeiten und Versuche zunehmen, sich diese Daten gewinnbringend anzueignen? Rena Tangens gehört zu den PionierInnen der digitalen Kommunikation. Sie vereint in ihren Projekten Medienarbeit, Kunst und Politik in Theorie und Praxis. 1984 rief sie das Kunstprojekt Art d’Ameublement ins Leben, 1988 gründete sie die Haecksen mit, einen Zusammenschluss weiblicher Mitglieder des Chaos Computer Clubs. Ab 1989 arbeitete sie am Mailboxprogramm ZERBERUS und der BIONIC-MailBox mit. Sie ist Mitbegründerin und Vorsitzende des Bielefelder FoeBuD e. V., Kuratorin der monatlichen Kultur- und Technologie- Veranstaltungsreihe Public Domain und Mitorganisatorin der deutschen BigBrotherAwards, der einmal jährlich an die eifrigsten Datensammler und Überwachungsbefürworter vergeben wird.

Mit Rena Tangens eröffnet das Freie Sender Kolleg seine Vortragsreihe. Das Freie Sender Kolleg ist eine umfangreiche Veranstaltungsreihe mit Seminaren, Vorträgen und Workshops zur Diskussion und Vervielfältigung kritischer Radio- und Medienpraxis.
