Roman: "Nennen wir sie Eugenie":
Die junge Eugenie, die kurz vor Beginn ihres Studiums steht, muss den Senegal verlassen, weil ihre Liebe zu einer anderen Frau entdeckt wird. Eugenie flieht nach Deutschland, wo sie Schutz und Hilfe erhofft und um Asyl bittet. Das übliche Asylverfahren beginnt und sie muss alles über sich ergehen lassen, ohne wirklich zu verstehen, was die Behörden in diesem ihr so fremden Land mit ihr vorhaben.
Eugenie erlebt den Alltag in der Flüchtlingsunterkunft, einer heruntergekommenen ehemaligen Kaserne, bestimmt von Perspektivlosigkeit, Langeweile und der ständigen Angst vor der Abschiebung zurück in ihre Heimat, wo sie Gefängnis und die Morddrohungen ehemaliger Freunde erwarten. Eugenie trifft andere Geflüchtete, die alle ihre eigenen Schicksale mitbringen. Und sie trifft Jeff, eine deutsche Aktivistin, die sie unterstützt und in der sie eine Freundin findet. Gemeinsam versuchen sie alles, um Eugenies Abschiebung zu verhindern.
