Ein kleiner Filmtipp - derzeit in der Arte Mediathek abrufbar

ZitatMontréal, 1989: Laurence ist ein beliebter Dozent für Literatur. Nebenbei schreibt er Gedichte und Kurzgeschichten und wurde gerade mit einem kleinen Literaturpreis ausgezeichnet. Fred arbeitet als Regieassistentin bei Fernsehproduktionen. Sie ist wild, laut und draufgängerisch; Laurence ist eher ein sanfter Typ. Doch die beiden bedeuten nichts als Glück füreinander.

An seinem 35. Geburtstag gesteht Laurence, dass er sich immer schon als Frau gefühlt habe und fortan auch als Frau leben wolle. Fred ist nach dem ersten Schock entschlossen, zu Laurence zu stehen, doch sobald Laurence sein Frausein demonstrativ zur Schau stellt, beginnen die Probleme. Alle fühlen sich vor den Kopf gestoßen. Auf Drängen des Elternbeirats muss Laurence die Unterrichtstätigkeit quittieren. Dieses Anderssein wird nicht toleriert. Und auch Fred kommt letztendlich nicht mit dem Wandel seiner/ihrer Identität klar …

In "Laurence Anyways“ des gerne als Wunderkind bezeichneten kanadischen Regisseurs Xavier Dolan ist alles übergroß: die Gefühle, die Bilder, das Leben und vor allem die Liebe. Zum ersten Mal spielt er nicht selbst die Hauptrolle und überlässt das Feld zwei fantastischen Darstellern, dem Franzosen Melvil Poupaud und der Kanadierin Suzanne Clément, die es schaffen, eine über allen Wolken schwebende Geschichte zu erden.
