Gestern hat in Köln das Filmfestival "Jenseits von Europa XII" begonnen, ein Festival mit unglaublich vielen und wirklich guten Filmen aus Afrika. Es dauert bis zum 2. Oktober.
Meine persönlichen Film-Tipps:

Meme pas mal (mit dt. Untertiteln): Der Film dokumentiert den Terror von Fundamentalisten, der sich gegen alle kritischen Intellektuellen in Tunesien richtet. Im Fall der Regisseurin scheuten ihre Verfolger nicht einmal davor zurück, ihre Krebskrankheit und ihre dadurch verursachte zeitweise Kahlheit zu nutzen, um sie mit abscheulich verzerrten Bildern im Internet zu denunzieren. Der Film erhält dadurch eine bewegende persönliche Note und entlarvt die Menschenverachtung faschistoider religiöser Hetzer. Dabei wird die Krebskrankheit zum Symbol für das politische Geschwür des Islamismus, das sich in muslimisch geprägten Gesellschaften wie Tunesien auszubreiten droht.

Der Film dokumentiert den Kampf gegen Homophobie in Uganda: Als dort 2011 ein Gesetz verabschiedet werden soll, das Homosexualität unter Todesstrafe stellt, versuchen David Kato der erste offen schwul lebende Mann Ugandas und seine MitstreiterInnen, dies mit allen Mitteln zu stoppen. Die brutale Ermordung Katos während der Dreharbeiten erschüttert die Gemeinschaft zutiefst und gibt dem Anliegen der AktivistInnen eine noch stärkere, traurige Dringlichkeit. Nach weltweiten Protesten wird der Gesetzesentwurf vorläufig zurückgezogen, nur um ihn nach Abebben der Proteste im Februar 2012 erneut ins Parlament einzubringen.
