Mein Ausgangspunkt war, dass wir als Gesellschaft mehr tun könnten, um einander zu unterstützen und unterschiedliche Lebensweisen anzuerkennen. Weil ich selbst zur LGBTQIA+ Community gehöre, ist es mir ein Bedürfnis, voranzugehen und ein positives Statement für Liebe und Inklusion zu machen – und allen, die es brauchen, etwas LEGO® Love zu schicken. Für uns sind Kinder Rollenmodelle, und Kinder stehen allem aufgeschlossen gegenüber; Herkunft oder Hintergrund interessiert sie nicht. Das sollten wir alle anstreben.
Das Auftreten nach außen ist so wichtig. Ich bin den Achtzigern aufgewachsen und war ziemlich offensichtlich schwul. Damals wurde dem Schwulsein häufig mit Negativität begegnet. Als ich ein junger Teenager war, herrschte die AIDS-Krise, die uns allen Angst und Bange machte.
Weil ich ein sehr femininer Junge war, wurde mir von den Erwachsenen um mich herum ständig gesagt, womit ich spielen durfte und womit nicht und dass ich mich wie ein richtiger „Bub“ benehmen und mich abhärten sollte. Von den Dingen, die mir am natürlichsten vorkamen, wollte man mich abbringen. Ich denke, die meisten Erwachsenen um mich herum taten das, um mich vor Mobbing und Drangsal zu schützen. Dabei kam ich mit allen Kindern in der Schule gut zurecht. Das alles hatte großen Einfluss auf meine Entwicklung; es war sehr strapaziös und ermüdend und hat mein Selbstvertrauen gestört
