Der Film nimmt den Zuschauer mit auf eine Reise durch die Welt der Frauen im Wandel der Zeit: vom alten Ägypten über die Anfänge der Frauenbewegung im Kaiserreich bis hin zu den modernen Emanzipationsbestrebungen. Er beleuchtet Frauenbilder in so gegensätzlichen Milieus wie Politik und Prostitution, Wirtschaft und Showbusiness sowie Sport und Spionage. Noch bis zum Ausgang des 19. Jahrhunderts war die Rolle der Frau relativ eindeutig definiert: Sie war Ehefrau und Mutter. Doch dann löste sich das vermeintlich schwache Geschlecht nach und nach aus der Umklammerung des Patriarchats. Die Entwicklung bis in die Gegenwart ist tiefgreifend: Noch nie waren sie gesellschaftlich so einflussreich wie heute. Die Rolle der Frau ist so facettenreich wie nie zuvor. Sie ist Ministerin und Vorgesetzte, Popstar und It-Girl, Heilige und Hure, Spionin und Supermodel. Den modernen Frauen stehen viele Mittel und Wege zur Verfügung, um ihre Ziele zu verwirklichen. Früher beschränkte sich ihre Macht auf die Kunst der Verführung. Oft nur in der Rolle der Liebesdienerin, als Mätresse erfuhren sie Verehrung und Wertschätzung seitens der Männer. Heute sind Mädchen erfolgreicher in der Schule, junge Frauen machen die besseren Universitätsabschlüsse, in der Politik haben quer durch alle Parteien zunehmend Frauen das Sagen. Wie verführerisch, wie begehrenswert wirkt eine Karrierefrau auf Männer? Ist es die Sorge vor dem Verlust seiner 'Männlichkeit', wenn sich das vermeintlich starke Geschlecht über starke Frauen lustig macht? Suchen Männer wirklich nach der Heiligen und Hure in einer Person? Gibt es 'Luder'? Oder sind die eine Erfindung der Herren? Was ist Klischee, was beflügelt Männerphantasien und wie wirksam sind die modernen 'Waffen' der Frauen? SPIEGEL TV dokumentiert die weibliche Macht aus den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen: Ob Superweib, Luder oder Emanze: An welche Schalthebel der Macht haben es die Frauen geschafft? Mit welchen Mitteln? Und werden sie es je schaffen, der Vormachtstellung der Männer ein Ende zu setzen?
