Ende der 70er Jahre: Es herrscht Aufbruchstimmung in West-Berlin. Von der Mauer umgeben wird die Insel zum Mekka des deutschen Punks und des avantgardistischen Undergrounds. Ein Paradies für Paradiesvögel.
In West-Berlin hat man keine große Zukunft, heißt es. "No future" bedeutet auch: Leben im hier und heute - so intensiv und radikal es eben geht. Die Undergroundszene tummelt sich im "Kumpelnest", im "SO 36" oder im "Risiko". Von hier aus machen sie Kunst. Oder haben einfach nur Spaß. Die wilde Zeit dauert von Ende der 70er bis zum Mauerfall - als West-Berlin und sein Underground fast über Nacht verschwinden.
Im Film erzählen Alexander Hacke ("Einstürzende Neubauten" ) und Wolfgang Müller ("Die tödliche Doris" ), Danielle de Picciotto (Künstlerin und Sängerin "Space Cowboys" ), Thomas Hornemann (Maler), Salomé (Maler und Frontmann von "Geile Tiere" ), die Modedesignerin Claudia Skoda und der Filmemacher Jörg Buttgereit über ihr Leben in West-Berlin.
Auch David Bowie spricht über seine Jahre in der geteilten Stadt. Viele Archivaufnahmen und natürlich Punk-Musik vermitteln die melancholische und zugleich schräge, intensive und schöpferische Atmosphäre dieser Zeit, in der sich Punks und die kreative Bohème trotz der stets präsenten Mauer ihre Freiheiten zum Experimentieren und Ausprobieren nahmen.
