Pastor Fred Phelps und seine Großfamilie haben eine eigene Kirche gegründet, die hauptsächlich durch menschenverachtende Slogans und Predigten auf sich aufmerksam macht. Sie fordern die Todesstrafe für Homosexuelle und begrüßen den Tod von Soldaten im Irak. Louis Theroux lebt für einige Zeit bei der Familie Phelps und versucht herauszufinden, was für Menschen hinter den bizarren Aussagen dieser Sekte stecken... "Gott hasst Schwuchteln!" oder "Danke, Gott, für die toten Soldaten" steht auf ihren Plakaten. Mit diesen Schildern fahren die Phelps zu Begräbnissen von im Irak gefallenen Soldaten. Ihrer Meinung nach ist der Tod dieser Soldaten die gerechte Strafe dafür, dass sie für ein verdorbenes Land gekämpft haben. Als verdorben empfinden die Anhänger der sogenannten Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas so einiges, vor allem aber Homosexualität. Katastrophen wie der 11. September oder der Wirbelsturm "Katrina" seien die Strafe Gottes dafür, dass Amerika Homosexualität fördere. Die Kirche hat etwa 80 Mitglieder und besteht fast ausschließlich aus den Verwandten.
Die Reportage war wie gewohnt sehr gut gemacht und der Reporter war sehr gut, ebenfalls wie gewohnt. Das was man jedoch sieht hat mich zu einem gewissen Maße sehr verstört. Besonders wenn es um die Kinder geht die dort mitleben und großgezogen werden. Teilweise hatte ich das Bedürfnis diese Menschen wirklich schütteln zu wollen. Was vermutlich aber auch nichts bringt.
Meinungen dazu?
Vorwiegend Meinungen die nicht nur aus Hasstiraden bestehen wären schön.
