Dieses Buch erzählt die Geschichte der Abenteuer von Erika und Klaus Mann, den beiden ältesten Kindern von Katia und Thomas Mann. Sie wachsen auf in München unter priveligierten Verhältnissen, beginnen in der Bohème der zwanziger Jahre ihre künstlerische Laufbahn und machen Schlagzeilen als "literary Mann twins". Der Machtantritt Adolf Hitlers im Januar 1933 wird zur entscheidenden Zäsur ihres Lebens: Beide gehen ins Exil und bekämpfen engagiert und rückhaltlos den Faschismus, mit allen Mitteln - Erika als Kabarettistin und Rednerin, Klaus als Schriftsteller und Herausgeber. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs arbeitet Klaus Mannfür die psychologische Kriegsführung der U.S. Army, Erika Mann berichtet als alliierte Korrespondentin von den Schauplätzen der globalen Konflikts.

Beurteilung von Miriam
Diese Biografie läßt sich sehr leicht und schnell weglesen. Als Nebeneffekt ist sie mir manchmal zu oberflächlich - wenn man sie mit Biografien z.B. über Annemarie Schwarzenbach oder auch über das Paar Sackville-West/Woolf vergleicht. Andererseits ist es dadurch ein guter Einstieg in die sehr spannende Zeit von 1920-1950 für alle diejenigen, die sich bisher noch nicht so mit diesem Zeitabschnitt beschäftigt haben. Gerade der Zeitabschnitt bis 1939 wird von der Autorin besonders ausführlich dargestellt.
