Die hier gemeinte Elfe ist ein richtiges Lausemädchen, daß viele lustige Abenteuer erlebt, oft auf die Nase fällt, sich aber niemals unterkriegen lässt.

Beurteilung von Brigitte
Margaretha Main erlebt eigentlich einen ganz normalen Kinderalltag auf dem Land in den 1940er und 1950er Jahren. Allerdings schafft sie es durch ihren einmaligen Stil, aus unbedeutenden Ereignissen etwas Besonderes zu machen. Mit ihrem Sinn für feine Ironie, mit der sie sich meistens selbst aufs Korn nimmt, und der teils enormen Überspitzung der Charakterschwächen ihrer Mitmenschen hat sie bei mir und meinen Schülerinnen und Schülern oft echte Lachattacken ausgelöst. Sie traut sich Streiche, die sich selbst die meisten Jungen nicht trauen würden und ist besonders bei den Mädchen sehr beliebt. MM macht deutlich, dass sich der „Nachteil“ ein Mädchen zu sein, ganz einfach ins Gegenteil verdrehen lässt. „Die Elfe im Garten“ ist ein Mädchen-Mut-mach-Buch der ersten Kategorie und obwohl ich es schon in vielen Klassen habe lesen lassen, komme ich nicht umhin, immer wieder mitlachen zu müssen, obwohl ich eigentlich in- und auswendig kenne.
Das erste Elfenbuch fand ich schon ziemlich lustig, aber die nächsten sind kaum noch zu toppen. Die Reise-Elfe ist köstlich und auch die letzten beiden gefallen mir ausgeprochen gut. Aber auch die anderen sind spitze. Außer der ersten, die bei R.G.Fischer erschienen ist, gibt es die anderen bei ReWi-Consulting.
