Robyn lebt in einer Welt, in der richtige Frauen von Männern erzogen werden. Es ist die größte Ehre, die Robyn sich erträumen konnte, dass Hunter Wolfmounter, der stattliche Anführer der Dorfwache, ausgerechnet sie zur Braut will. Eines Tages wird Robyn im Wald von einem weißen Wolf gebissen. Die Begegnung mit dem vermeintlichen Untier verändert ihre Sicht auf die Welt und ihre Rolle darin. Als Robyn beginnt, an der Tapferkeit ihres Verlobten zu zweifeln, sieht Hunter seinen Platz als Captain der Red Riders gefährdet und jagt sie in den Wald.
